Inkhorn Controversy brengt eclectische indie-folk met een rauw randje. Hun muziek is een zoektocht naar authenticiteit in een complexe wereld, verpakt in poëtische teksten en verrassende arrangementen.(Aldus Van Piekeren) De band speelt een combinatie van Indierock en Kleinkunst, zowel Nederlands- als Engelstalig.
Inkhorn Controversy wordt opgericht in 2010. De band speelt sinds eind 2022 in de huidige bezetting. Twee leden zijn al sinds het begin aan de band verbonden. De vier huidige leden waren eerder actief als singer songwriter of muzikant en tekstschrijver in andere bands. De vier brengen, met ieder hun eigen levensverhaal en hun eigen muzikale voorkeuren, veel verschillende invloeden in de band. New Wave, Prog, Rock, Folk, ja zelfs kleinkunst, alles komt voorbij.
Naast werk dat als band wordt geschreven speelt Inkhorn Controversy ook nummers die de verschillende leden zelf hebben geschreven. Soms al lang voordat zij lid werden van de band. Maar ook dan is de achtergrond van de andere leden te herkennen. Een optreden van Inkhorn Controversy voelt dan ook als een reis langs verschillende muziekstijlen en emoties. Een treinreis door afwisselend landschap waar er voor ieder wat te zien is. Of, zoals de Schotten zeggen, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute.”
De verscheidenheid aan stijlen maakt ook dat de band in veer verschillende hoedanigheden te zien is; als volledige band, akoestisch in een intieme setting of als duo op straat.

(According to Van Piekeren) The band plays a combination of Indie rock and cabaret, in both Dutch and English. Inkhorn Controversy was founded in 2010. The band has been playing in its current lineup since late 2022. Two members have been associated with the band since the beginning. The four current members were previously active as singer-songwriters or musicians and lyricists in other bands. With their own life stories and musical preferences, the four bring many different influences to the band. New Wave, Prog, Rock, Folk, and even cabaret—everything is covered.
In addition to work written as a band, Inkhorn Controversy also plays songs written by the various members themselves. Sometimes long before they joined the band. But even then, the backgrounds of the other members are recognizable. A performance by Inkhorn Controversy therefore feels like a journey through various musical styles and emotions. A train ride through a varied landscape where there is something for everyone to see. Or, as the Scots say, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute.” The variety of styles also means that the band can be seen in many different guises; as a full band, acoustically in an intimate setting, or as a duo on the street.
